Three young people from California—in their twenties—were hiking in Yosemite National Park. They climbed up the steep and slippery Mist Trail until they reached Vernal Fall. It is one of Yosemite’s most popular and spectacular waterfalls.

My wife and I were in Prague when we heard about the shooting of Charlie Kirk. It was late and we went to bed without knowing the outcome. We awoke in the morning to learn that Charlie had been martyred. As it happens, Prague is a great place to reflect on the enduring legacy of martyrs and to contrast that with the fate of the powerful secular elites.

In the wake of his tragic and shocking death, the nation has once again been riveted by its divisive politics and emotional media. The reaction to Kirk’s assassination has told us more about our country and ourselves than about this motivated and successful leader.

You and I are the recipients of the supreme sacrifice and sacred honor of those who have gone before us. The trailblazers, pioneers, and patriots who advanced freedom. As we celebrate, let’s remember how much we owe them. And how precious and often fragile freedom is.

At the end of the day, what matters most is serving God, not money or fame.

It is important that we never get so caught up in our work that we forget what is most important - family.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another,” Paul tells the Ephesians, “forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32). What’s been done for us, we must do for others. Nothing impacts our witness more than kindness. Through the eyes of kindness, we see our neighbors, our world, and ourselves.

What we are seeing may well be the early embers of another Great Awakening — a grassroots revival not driven by celebrity pastors or megachurch marketing, but by everyday people choosing to follow Christ and share His love in ordinary places.

On this day, Americans would be encouraged to take time from their daily pursuits and gather to pray for their country. Wrote the President:

“Let us then rest humbly in the hope. . . that the united cry of the nation will be heard on high and answered with blessings no less than the pardon of our national sins and the restoration of our now divided and suffering country to its former happy condition of unity and peace.”

It is the most stunning promise you and I have—this promise of the resurrection. The most meaningful and the most comforting; the most secure and the most lasting. For now, this world is a cemetery in which too many seek life—its joy, satisfaction, and meaning—among the dead. Among the decaying remains of man’s misguided trust and long-lost dreams.

Wyoming recently became one of the latest states to pass bold, pro-family legislation to safeguard children from harmful online content and preserve fairness in girls’ sports. These victories were not handed down from Washington, D.C., nor handed out by political elites. They were earned by citizens — ordinary Christians — who prayed, voted and engaged with their state leaders to demand change. And their efforts are working.

He wants us to know the love that is in the heart of the Trinity for one another. Imagine how strong the love of the Father is for the Son. Imagine the love of the Son of God for the Father. God wants us to have that kind of love. He wants us to know it deep in our souls.
